Abstract

This study investigates the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on job automation and workforce transformation across five key industries: manufacturing, finance, healthcare, retail, and construction. Employing a qualitative, desk-based research design, the study synthesizes evidence from scholarly publications, institutional reports, and industry analyses to identify cross-sectoral patterns associated with AI-enabled automation. Rather than conducting primary data collection, the study draws on credible secondary sources to examine how job functions, skill requirements, and organizational configurations are evolving in response to technological advancement. The reviewed literature reveals several recurring themes. While AI offers organizations improvements in operational efficiency, accuracy, and decision-making capacity, it simultaneously raises concerns regarding job displacement, workforce restructuring, and the long-term viability of certain professional categories. Industries characterized by standardized, repetitive, and data-intensive tasks particularly manufacturing and financial services demonstrate higher susceptibility to automation, whereas sectors demanding complex human interaction and contextual judgment, such as healthcare and construction, display greater resilience. Retail occupies an intermediate position, embracing digital automation while retaining significant reliance on human-centered service delivery. Across all sectors, the study identifies a consistent and growing demand for digital literacy, analytical reasoning, and adaptive capabilities as foundational prerequisites for future employability. These transformations are interpreted through established theoretical frameworks, including Skill-Biased Technological Change (SBTC), the Task-Based Approach, Human Capital Theory, and Socio-Technical Systems Theory. The findings further underscore the critical role of organizational readiness and sustained investment in human capital as key determinants of successful AI integration. By integrating evidence from diverse sources, this study offers a comprehensive and nuanced perspective on AI's implications for labor markets and organizational practice, providing valuable guidance for policymakers, employers, and educational institutions committed to promoting sustainable workforce development in an increasingly AI-driven economy.
