Abstract

This study explores the phenomenon of environmental activism in North Africa in the context of climate change challenges, adopting a sociological pragmatic approach that focuses on analyzing environmental actions as outcomes of complex interactions among actors, values, justifications, and stakes. By examining the tools of this approach and analyzing climate change as an environmental challenge for environmental actors, the study sheds light on how actors negotiate environmental issues in the public sphere and how they justify their actions based on multiple systems of values. The study also reveals the intersections between environmental, economic, political, and identity-related dimensions in the Maghreb contexts in general, and the Moroccan case in particular.
