Abstract

Natural light is a source of life in various fields, especially in the field of architecture, as it is the most important basic vocabulary in design, and has many functional, environmental and aesthetic goals that are no less important than its predecessors.

In this research, the need to study the specificity of lighting, both natural and artificial, and its impact on the sensory and visual perception of the external façade formation of the building for the viewer, in order to reach a set of variables for the building on the one hand, and another for light and shadow on the other hand, which in turn will contribute to influencing the viewer's perception by directing the design behavior, which in turn leads to a more efficient external formation that contributes to achieving comfort and harmony for the viewer.

This is done through a theoretical study that illustrates the concepts of light and shadow, then an analytical study of two models of buildings to conclude the results and recommendations that serve the research objective.
