Abstract

Qadi Iyad (d. 544 AH / 1149 AD) is considered one of the prominent scholars and imams who played a significant role in spreading the Maliki school of thought in the Islamic West and in Andalusia. Many scholars and jurists studied under him, and he authored numerous works and compositions, including Al-Tanbihat al-Mustanbita 'ala al-Mudawwana and Al-Shifa bi Ta'rif Huquq al-Mustafa, in addition to his book Tarteeb al-Madaarik wa Taqreeb al-Masaalik, in which he mentioned the Maliki jurists according to his arrangement. Some of them belonged to tribes, some to clans, some to sub-clans, some to cities, some to professions, some to specific schools of thought, and some to certain sects. The number of Maliki jurists mentioned in his book Tarteeb al-Madaarik is approximately 1,362, of whom around 280 jurists were listed by tribal and clan names. As for the rest, they were attributed to regions, professions, and other categories. In this research, we followed a quantitative statistical methodology that classifies and analyzes the data according to statistical steps to yield relatively accurate results.
