Scenography of Rhythmic Interaction: Towards a Musical Visual Language in Immersive Digital Spaces

Abstract

This research explores the rhythmic interaction between music and visual arts within the open digital space, illustrating how modern technologies—particularly artificial intelligence and immersive arts—contribute to reshaping the aesthetic experience and expanding the recipient's role. The study highlights rhythm's capacity to form a common language that unites sound, color, movement, and light. It traces the evolution of this interaction from the works of Kandinsky, Picasso, and Tinguely, who sought to translate music into a visual language, to contemporary digital and multi-sensory immersive arts, where the recipient transitions from a passive receiver to an active participant and critic within the artistic experience (Synesthesia). Furthermore, the study emphasizes Michael Jackson's musical performances, wherein he integrated music, rhythm, and showmanship with visual movement and lighting (Scenography). This integration created a comprehensive interactive experience that maintained continuous audience engagement throughout the performance. The research leverages this approach to reintroduce Arab musical heritage through innovative digital frameworks. By utilizing rich folklore and popular dances to enhance the visual rhythmic experience, the study aims to preserve Arab cultural identity and present it through sophisticated, contemporary methods. This is contextualized within the philosophical dimension of Utopia as an ideal artistic space striving for perfect harmony among the senses to achieve a holistic artistic experience. The research concludes that integrating visual and musical rhythm with digital technologies and artificial intelligence facilitates a comprehensive artistic experience. This integration not only preserves Arab artistic and musical heritage but also broadens its accessibility to local and global audiences, thereby fostering sustainable artistic interaction and realizing a utopian vision of an all-encompassing aesthetic experience.
