This research investigates the pervasive phenomenon of misinformation concerning the alleged demise of prominent global leaders, emphasizing how such fabricated news manipulates public opinion. By adopting recent viral controversies surrounding the rumored deaths of President Donald Trump and Britain's King Charles III as primary case studies, the study navigates the intricate linguistic mechanisms behind fake news. The core objective is to address critical inquiries regarding the deliberate employment of linguistic presuppositions to propagate misinformation. Furthermore, it seeks to uncover the precise strategies utilized to obscure factual events, identify patterns in how evidence is mystified, and pinpoint effective corrective measures.

Holding substantial value for scholars in both pragmatics and forensic linguistics, the paper demonstrates how seamlessly fabricated narratives can distort reality. To fulfill its objectives, the research critically analyzes a purposeful selection of reports from widely circulated media platforms. The analytical framework is meticulously structured; it synthesizes pure forensic linguistic toolkits with Yule’s pragmatic classification of presuppositions, van Dijk’s ideological category of evidentiality, and specific linguistic markers denoting misinformation.
