A lexical study of King Hassan II's discourse on the occasion of the 43rd anniversary of the Revolution of the King and the People, August 20, 1996

Abstract

The lexicon plays a crucial role in shaping various types of discourse, defining their message, and guiding their objectives, particularly political discourse. This study examines the words and terms used in King Hassan II's speech on the 43rd anniversary of the King and People's Revolution on August 20, 1996: a lexical study that reveals the nature of the lexicon employed in this speech, demonstrating the role of these words and terms in its structure, their contribution to shaping its meaning, and the crystallization of its significance. This study also aims to highlight the importance of lexical analysis in political discourse analysis. In conducting this study, we adopted a descriptive-analytical approach to inventorying, classifying, and analyzing the vocabulary used in the royal speech, and to identify its meanings in linguistic and terminological dictionaries.

The study concludes that the lexicon played a prominent role in constructing the meaning of the speech and shaping its significance, given the diversity of its semantic fields. It was also noted that most of the words used in the speech were nouns.
