Abstract

The relationship between university higher education and sustainable development has become clearer, as the role of universities and colleges is no longer limited to graduating students only, but also includes the participation of students in finding sustainable solutions through enhancing cultural, social, and environmental awareness using continuous development. Colleges of humanities perform this role as a force that cultivates minds and builds societies, based on the belief that true development begins with the human being and their cultural and cognitive awareness.

This study aims to clarify the role of colleges of humanities in their societal, cognitive, and educational interaction to support sustainable development, by establishing a vision that strengthens academic and scientific staff in serving the community and achieving comprehensive and integrated objectives for sustainable development.

The research is divided into two chapters: the first chapter addresses the theoretical aspect based on previous studies, including the concept of sustainable development and its dimensions, as well as the contributions of educational institutions and colleges of humanities in promoting it, with clarification of the contributions of the College of Education for Human Sciences at the University of Wasit to sustainable development through workshops, conferences, and seminars.

The second chapter includes the field aspect and relies on the descriptive-analytical method using a questionnaire as a research tool, which the researcher distributed randomly to students of the College of Education for Human Sciences. The data were then organized into frequency tables, analyzed, and presented.

The study gains its scientific significance by enriching the academic library with research on the contributions of humanities and educational colleges in promoting sustainable development, and by providing recommendations to enhance the college’s role in achieving the goals of sustainable developmen
