Historical narratives in the poetry of Sheikh Alaa Al-Din Al-Shafahini

Abstract

       The city of Hillah is the city of science and scholars, the center of intellectual and cultural radiation for Iraq and neighboring countries, and the fertile home for scholars and writers who competed to revive the scientific and cultural renaissance of the city of Hillah. Its scholars and princes of Bani Mazid competed to enrich its libraries with many manuscripts in various sciences, especially jurisprudence, principles, language, and poetry.Abu al-Hasan al-Sheikh Ali bin al-Husayn al-Hilli, nicknamed Ala al-Din, and known as al-Shafahini, a Hilli poet,Talk a lot about alienationAfter the departure of his loved onesand his friends,He said:I was crying, and the house was a home, and no one returned to the departed.He was a contemporary of the first martyr (d. 786 AH). He combined two virtues: abundant knowledge and brilliant literature with brilliant thought, sound insight, apparent brilliance, and dazzling virtue. He has many poems about the love of the family of the Prophet (peace be upon them), especially Imam Ali (peace be upon him). He has poetry that imitates Imam Ali (peace be upon him) and tells him about the bloody Karbala incident in the year 60 AH between truth and falsehood and a struggle for a word of truth waged by Imam Hussein (peace be upon him), his family and his companions against the army of the cursed Yazid bin Muawiyah. His seven long poems that Effendi, the author of Riyad al-Ulama, saw in the handwriting of the scholar Muhammad bin Ali bin al-Hasan al-Jaba’i al-Amili, a student of Ahmad bin Fahd al-Hilli (d. 841 AH). The poetic verses will be traced back to historical sources and the verses will be divided into a purely historical division. When reading the poetic verses of Sheikh al-Shafi’i, you feel a strange feeling as if he is imitating the heart in a brilliant artistic and literary way and takes you into the time and place of the historical incident of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him) and the family of the Prophet (peace be upon them) and imitates the feelings and tears flow from The heart, not the eye, sees the soul and feels a strange feeling as if you exist and cannot do anything, helpless and restricted, and you cry out, “At your service, O Hussein.” If only we were with you, then we would win a great victory.

In the eighth century AH, poetry was almost widespread among the scholars of Hillah, especially elegy - the elegy of Imam Hussein, peace be upon him, which is the most spacious field and the closest to the souls of all poets. They found in it a wide space, so they poured out their feelings, longing and supplications into it, and vented in it their desires and their sadness over the calamities of the family of the Prophet, peace be upon them.God Almighty said: “God only desires to keep away the uncleanness from you, O people of the House, and to purify you with a thorough purification.”Surah Al-Ahzab, Verse
